About the Job
The Swedish Schools Inspectorate has a significant and important societal mission; we aim to ensure that all children and young people receive a safe and equitable education. We do this, among other things, by inspecting the quality of all schools in Sweden and reviewing applications to operate independent school activities. The Schools Inspectorate has offices in Gothenburg, Linköping, Lund, Stockholm, and Umeå.
The Schools Inspectorate also serves as a host authority for the Schools Appeals Board, which is a court-like authority tasked with reviewing decisions within the education system. The secretariat for the Schools Appeals Board is one of five units within the Department for Operational Support and Legal Affairs at the Schools Inspectorate's headquarters in Stockholm, and its main task is to handle the board's cases. The secretariat consists of a head of secretariat, about thirteen lawyers, and two regular administrators. We are now looking for one or more dedicated lawyers who want to work with this large and important societal mission. Are you the one we are looking for?
We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who wants to work with the legal task of reviewing certain decisions within the education system. This is an important and challenging job that places particularly high demands on accuracy and analytical skills, especially considering that the Appeals Board's decisions cannot be appealed. We also work in a seasonal operation, which at times requires your ability to prepare a large number of cases simultaneously and prioritize. Job Responsibilities
The work as a lawyer in the secretariat is qualified and varied. The role provides an opportunity to make a difference for individual children or students. The environment in the secretariat is characterized by collaboration, working together to create the best conditions for safeguarding students' rights. You will primarily work on preparing incoming cases for the board. Your job responsibilities include, among others:
- Preparation of cases including communication with complainants and decision-making authorities as well as some case registration, providing decision proposals to the chairperson/vice-chairperson, and presenting certain cases to the board in its entirety at special meetings.
- Maintaining contacts and answering questions from complainants, school principals, municipalities, and the public.
- Conducting legal investigations and providing proposals for referral statements.
- Initiating and participating in the further development of routines and methods for effective case management with uniform and equitable decisions.
We Are Looking For You Who
- holds a Swedish law degree
- is a qualified notary or has equivalent experience as a preparatory lawyer or presenter in court, completed within the last five years
It is also meritorious
- if you have worked with case management within a government agency in recent years beyond your notary service
- if you have other legal work experience in recent years that the employer deems relevant

The Position
The position is a permanent employment (full-time) preceded by a 6-month probationary period. Start date in May 2026 or by agreement (a quick start is preferred).
